The Industry Plan (TIP) - Terms & Conditions
Last Updated: October 2025
Welcome to The Industry Plan (TIP), administered by Ecotone Health Insurance Inc. in partnership with Simply Benefits and various licensed Canadian insurers. These Terms & Conditions outline how coverage, payments, and administration are handled for members of TIP.
By applying for or participating in TIP, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the following terms.
Coverage and Eligibility
The Industry Plan (TIP) provides group-style health and dental coverage for individuals working in hospitality, retail, and similar industries who may not have access to employer-sponsored benefits.
Eligibility is determined at the time of application and may be verified through employment, association, or referral information.
Coverage begins only after all required forms have been processed and approved by Ecotone Health Insurance Inc. and Simply Benefits.
Payment Terms and Conditions (Pre-Authorized Debit)
Premiums are withdrawn monthly on or about the 10th day of each month by Simply Benefits, acting as the plan administrator.
All withdrawals are treated as personal pre-authorized debits (PADs) in accordance with Canadian Payments Association Rule H1.
If a payment is returned for insufficient funds (NSF) or otherwise not received:
-
The member’s account will be immediately placed on hold, and all claims will be temporarily suspended.
-
Simply Benefits will send an email link allowing the member to make an EFT payment to bring premiums up to date.
-
If payment is not received before the next scheduled withdrawal, Simply Benefits will attempt a double payment the following month.
-
If the double payment is unsuccessful, coverage will be terminated and the member will be required to re-apply.
Members are responsible for any NSF fees charged by their financial institution.
Ecotone Health Insurance Inc., Simply Benefits, and their partners are authorized to process these withdrawals for monthly premiums and to receive corresponding claim payments.
Cancellation Policy
You may cancel your coverage at any time by providing 30 days’ written notice to Ecotone Health Insurance Inc. by email.
Once cancelled, you will be ineligible to re-apply for coverage under The Industry Plan for 24 months (two years) from the date of termination. Re-enrolment is only permitted during an open enrolment period or when you meet new eligibility requirements (such as new employment or group participation).
Ecotone Health Insurance Inc. reserves the right to update or revise these terms at any time, as needed for plan administration or regulatory compliance.
Plan Governance and Amendment Rights
Ecotone Health Insurance Inc., Simply Benefits, and any current or future insurer, underwriter, or third-party administrator retain the right to:
-
Modify or adjust coverage levels, benefits, exclusions, eligibility rules, or administrative fees at any time;
-
Revise premium rates or contribution requirements as determined by the insurer or administrator; and
-
Replace or transition to a different insurer or administrator to maintain plan continuity or compliance.
The annual renewal date for The Industry Plan is December 1 of each year. While most updates will take effect at renewal, Ecotone reserves the right to implement changes at any time without prior notice when required for proper plan operation.
Continued participation in the plan constitutes acceptance of any updated terms.
